Walmart re-emphasizes store brands

With the economy leading more consumers to store brands, Walmart is expanding and improving its Great Value line.  The company is introducing over 80 new products, ranging from cage-free organic eggs to double stuffed cookies.  Formulas for 750 products were changed after consumer tests and evaluation against national brands.  In addition, packaging on Great Value products was redesigned with white backgrounds to make them pop on the shelf.  The packaging is intended to emphasize appetizing food visuals, provide better nutrition labels in English and Spanish, and to minimize material use.  Prices will remain the same.  The products will begin appearing in stores this month.
